One of the key reasons for not introducing an automated trip reporting system is the fear of compromising privacy. Some companies make ‘gentleman’s agreements’ about non-violation of the privacy of individual drivers, but the uneasy feeling often remains.

An example:

Each driver has access to the trip administration of his/her vehicle, which is based on a GPS device and a trip type selector installed in the car. If the trip selector is switched to ‘private’ only the mileage, odometer readings and time span is visible in the report. At a certain point in time, the Fiscal Authority announces a control visit to review the administration for a given period. At this point, the driver can review and complement the reporting online to ensure that all trips are correctly registered. If a trip has been accidentally reported as a private trip, this can be corrected online. The system will log the change, and the employer will receive an e-mail that this correction has been carried out, when and by whom.
